IN the final 60 seconds we interviewed Peter Tahal, who is in charge of collecting all the results and stats and putting them on the official FIL World Championships website. He also provides statistical information for the media and the coaches of different teams.
Peter, you’ve seen the stats for the teams – who is looking the most impressive?
It’s hard to tell, as they have had games against the big teams, so it’s hard to tell what the team will do against a really good opponent; although I still think that they’ve been saving something big up their sleeve for the Finals.
There are players who have scored lots of goals in the tournament, but the final game is completely different compared to the rest of the tournament.
Any tips for USA v Canada?
I don’t want to give a team, because it will be a fight of two different approaches; I think Canada is the more relaxed team, which can be an advantage for them. On the other hand, the USA are taking a very professional approach, they are very focussed on getting this victory.
That's not the only big game, Japan v Australia are battling for Bronze, any interesting stats for that game?
Japan have only nine technical penalties and 6 mins of personal penalties, which is about half of the next team, the USA. Japan are a good team, they have no stand out stars, in statistical terms, so they can do well, I expect a tight game, and possibly a surprise Japan win.
What’s your favourite stat?
Polish player Josh Coveleski has scored 35 goals, which is more than Mexico’s whole team have scored in all their five games.
Also, Latvia are the leaders in penalty time, added together, they have played the equivalent of a whole game with a man down.
What is your favourite quote so far in this tournament?
“It’s on the webbbbbbbsiiiiiiiiite!”
